Application Control with Files2Phones - rev 3.2

Note: The overlay controls shown below are provided in revision 3.2 and higher. If you are seeing a blue hexagon control, click Application Controls - rev. 3.0.

Overview

You can run virtually any application from the Private Menu. In the F2P Server on your PC, drag the application start-up icon (or alternate) onto the F2P Private folder (see Making the Application Available below).

On the iPhone, open the Private folder. For remote application control, click the application icon in the left column of the listing. The actual application will appear on the desktop of your PC and then on your iPhone. The screen may flash momentarily as the F2P Mirror Driver is activated. This is normal. (Note: in Windows Vista, the desktop will switch from Aero to Basic mode. This is a Microsoft RDP quirk and not ours. When your iPhone browser back button is pressed, it will revert back to Aero mode.)

You are now ready to fully control your desktop or application remotely from the iPhone or iPod touch.

PC Application Setup Silent Movie

On the F2P Server on your PC, you need to make the application available in a way that makes it possible to launch the application from the iPhone the same way you do from your PC, so that it starts with the same settings and supporting files. To do that, on your PC, drag whatever you use to start the application onto the F2P Private folder.

Note to Windows Vista users: there is a limitation that prohibits us from clicking OK to the Administrator Permissions challenge. Therefore, any applications you make available must not be set to Run as Administrator, or you must disable the Windows Vista User Account Controls (UAC).

Examples:

Shortcut
If you start the application by clicking a shortcut on your desktop, drag the shortcut from your desktop onto the F2P Private folder. Remember, on the iPhone, click on the icon on the left if you wish to control the application.
Windows Start menu
If you start the application by selecting an option from the Windows Start menu, open Windows Start, navigate to the menu item and drag it onto the F2P Private folder. Remember, on the iPhone, click on the icon on the left if you wish to control the application.
Individual File
If you start the application by clicking on an individual data file (which then launches the application), drag the data file directly onto the F2P Private folder, or use the F2P My Computer panel to navigate to the file and then drag it onto the F2P Private folder. Remember, on the iPhone, click on the icon on the left if you wish to control the application.
Desktop
You can navigate in the F2P My Computer panel to your desktop and drag the entire Desktop onto the F2P Private folder. Then you can access whatever you want. Remember, on the iPhone, click the Desktop icon, not the descriptive name. (Note, clicking the descriptive name will allow you to take a snapshot of the Desktop.)

Control from your iPhone

On the iPhone, go to the myf2p.com address and click the Private button. Then click the application icon in the left column of the folder listing (not the application name).

When the application opens, the iPhone shows in the upper left corner of the application. Note that application is displayed at a 1:1 pixel scale; you can expand this by spreading your fingers.

Invoking the Keyboard

You can bring up the keyboard at any time by a single click 1/16 of an inch above the bottom "browser back & favorites bar" at the very center of the iPhone button and the keyboard will appear. A red 2-line text area just above the keyboard is where your typing & editing are performed. You should position the viewable area of the screen over the area that requires text entry (many times the field is auto-selected by the application and you will not need to re-select it.) Otherwise, Single-Click the screen at a position on the line you wish to edit. When you invoke the keyboard the red area will contain all the text from the pointer/cursor position to the end-of-line.

Hint: In Excel, if you want to force a auto-recalculation of the sheet, after changing the cell value, go to the end of the value and hit the Return key followed by the Done key. This will also move you to the cell below the previous cell allowing you to then simply re-invoke the keyboard to edit that, etc.
