Getting Started
Overview
You install the Files2Phones Access Server software on your desktop, and leave it running. Through it, you make resources available for real time access through Public, Private or Guest folders. Then, you (or others) can connect to your Files2Phones Access Server through the iPhone or the iPod touch browser (Safari) and view or control the resources.
Resources can include: files, folders, applications, webcams, monitor display, and a special uploaded photos folder.
In the public folder, you can make files, folders, and the special uploaded photos available for viewing, but not for remote control.
In private or guest folders, you can make any resource available for viewing or for remote control.
Browser access is made to a unique web address that is assigned to your Files2Phones Access Server at the time you install and register the software. The address is http://your-web-prefix.myF2P.com, where "your-web-prefix" is unique to you.
Getting Started
There are four steps:
- Install the Files2Phones Access Server:
You install the Files2Phones Access Server software on your desktop from http://www.myf2p.com/downloads.asp.
Note: When you install and register, you get a very important web-prefix that you will use in connecting to your desktop from the iPhone or iPod touch. Remember it!
For more information about installation and operations, see Install, Register and License topics.
- Make resources available:
In the F2P Access Server, you make resources available for access through public, private or guest folders. To do this, you drag a resource from your desktop, the My Computer or My Other Image Sources onto the appropriate folder:
| Folder |
Description |
| Public |
Resources available to anyone without a password. |
| Private |
Resources intended for your own remote access. You can set a username and password for this folder. |
| Guest |
This folder is intended to contain password-protected folders for different people, so you can set up a folder for your investors, another for your work-out group, etc. |
For more information, see the individual folder articles, Public, Private, Guest.
- Leave the Files2Phones Access Server running during any time period when you want to connect to it from your phone. For some of you, that may be 24x7, for others it may be occasional.
- Connect from your iPhone or iPod touch:
Then, you (or others) connect to your Files2Phones Access Server through the iPhone browser (Safari) and view the files. Start Safari, and go to http://your-web-prefix.myf2p.com.
Then click the button for the folder you want (Public, Private, Guest), and type in the username and password if prompted.
Then, click a description to see the resource, click the Info+Email button to send a link to the file to someone by email, or click the left-most icon to run the application remotely on your desktop.
For more information, see the F2P iPhone Help.
If you have any problems getting connected or staying connected, see Troubleshooting.
