Install

You install the Files2Phones Access Server software on your desktop, and leave it running.

There is nothing you need to install on the iPhone or iPod touch, provided the firmware is up-to-date. See System Requirements.

Installing Files2Phones Access Server

To install the Files2Phones Access Server software:

  1. Download the installation program from http://www.myf2p.com/downloads.asp. We recommend that you choose to run the program from the website instead of saving it to your computer. If you do save it, the installer program is named f2psetup.exe.

  2. In the Welcome screen, click Next.

  3. In the Terms of Service screen, click I Accept.

  4. In the Choose Destination Location screen, click Next, or select another location for the Files2Phones program files.

  5. You are prompted to install the Microsoft Mirror Driver, and to accept the License Agreement. This installs the hotComm Mirror Driver as a Display Device. This driver is required for the Application Control feature in Files2Phones. For more information, see Mirror Driver.

  6. In the Installation Completed screen, click Finish.

  7. The Registration Wizard starts automatically. During Registration, your F2P website address is created. You are sent a 6-character activation key to save for your records (Files2Phones is automatically activated). See Register for more information.

  8. At the end of the Registration Wizard, the Files2Phones Access Server program starts automatically, and you're ready to start making resources available. See On your Desktop for more information.

Select Folder Options, and select the View tab. In the Advanced Settings section, check Show hidden files and folders, and click Apply, then OK.

Firewalls

Files2Phones requires outgoing TCP access through any port. This is normally provided by most personal routers and firewalls, as long as you permit access for Files2Phones if challenged. Permit full access at all times, for all types of activity. See FAQ: firewalls.

You may be challenged to permit:

Program Description
f2preg.exe Registration Wizard program
f2p.exe Files2Phones Access Server program

Optionally, for faster service, you can open a port in your firewall or router for incoming TCP connections (connecting initiated externally). For information on how to open incoming ports, see http://www.myf2p.com/connectDirect.asp.
