This a tour of Files2Phones by screenshot:

Files2Phones Access Server main screen

After you've installed the Files2Phones Access Server on your desktop, you drag the resources you want to control from the iPhone -- files, folders, application start-up shortcuts, monitor, photos, webcam, and so on -- into your Public, Private and Guest folders.

Drag into the Public Folder those resources that you want anyone to be able to view. (They can be displayed, but not remotely controlled.) The Public folder is not password protected.

Drag into the Private Folder the applications and resources you want to control remotely, as well as view. The Private folder is intended for you, and should be password-protected.

In the Guest Folder, you create folders for specific guests. The resources you drag into the guest folders can be controlled remotely as well as viewed. Each of the guest folders has its own username and password.

Remember to password protect the Private and Guest folders -- right-click and select Set Username & Password.

F2P on iPhone main screen

On the iPhone, start Safari and go to your myf2p.com address, such as try.myf2p.com.

Click Public to open the Public folder and see the list of resources.

Click Private to open the Private folder. You'll be prompted for a username and password, and then you'll see the list of resources.

Click Guest to open a Guest folder. You'll be prompted for a username and password, and then you'll see the list of resources for the specific guest folder that has that username and password.

Click Settings to change the settings on your iPhone.

Click Logout to sign out of the session.

F2P iPhone Settings

These settings apply to Files2Phones on your iPhone.

Take note of the photo@mail.yoursite.myf2p.com address -- you can email photos from the iPhone Camera tool to the Uploaded Photos folder in your F2P Server installation.

Sort Style, Sort Order, and Image View control how the lists of files, folders, applications and resources appear in your Folder lists.

App Control determines how you want to interact with the iPhone touch screen when you are controlling an application -- using the Overlay or using the Nudge technique.

Click Save to save your changed settings, or Quit to close the Settings screen without changes.

Click Help to access the F2P Help file, which has links to the www.myf2p.com website and the online F2P Guide.

Secure Login to Private or Guest Folders

If you password-protect your Private Folder, and you click Private on the main F2P iPhone screen, you are prompted to log in through the F2P Secure Login.

A keyboard pops up, so you can type in the username and password that you set for this folder.

Note that the Guest folders are also password protected, and have the same secure login.

Private Folder

When you open the Private Folder, you see a list of files, folders and resources that you have made available through the Private Folder on the F2P Server on your desktop.

In the top section (monitor, webcam, Skype, and so on):

Click an icon in the left column to launch the resource and control it remotely.

For monitor and webcam, click the icon in the left column to launch and control it remotely. Click the blue description in the right column to see a single screenshot, with the option of emailing it to someone.

For Skype, click the icon in the left column to run Skype on your desktop, or click the blue description in the right column to run Skype on your iPhone.

For Uploaded Photos, click either the icon or the description to open this special folder of photos you've uploaded from your iPhone Photos section to your F2P Server.

Under Folders, click the icon in the left colum to open the folder and see a list of contents.

Under Files:
Click an icon in the left column to launch the application and control it remotely.

Click a blue description in the right column to display a file. If the iPhone has native support for the application that the file opens in, the description will be blue, and you can view the file from your iPhone.

Click the icon in the middle column to see more information about the file or to email a link to it to someone else.

Example: Excel Mortgage Calculator

As an example, we opened the Private Folder, and clicked the icon in the left column for the Mortgage Calculator.

Initially, you see the upper left corner of the application. You can then scroll around, minimize and maximize, using basic iPhone techniques.

The Overlay

If you want to type, right-mouse click, select Copy or other functions that are normally available in a Windows application, click in the spot where you want the action to occur. You get the Overlay set of buttons that initiate different actions. For example, you'd click in the Loan Amount field, and the Overlay pops up. Click the T button to get the keyboard for typing.

Keyboard

After you click the T button in the Overlay, you get a keyboard. Type what you want and click Done.

Magnify the image

You can magnify the image to better control the detail.

Function Scroller

In the Overlay Pop-up, you can select the Fn button. That pops up a display of function options, such as Delete and Copy.

Desktop top-left icon group

You can set options through the menus and icons in the F2P Server window.

   Particularly note:

The Webcam check in the Advanced menu means that your webcam is on (F2P will turn it on for you).

The Eyes Off feature of the Advanced menu. Check this feature if you want your desktop hidden when applications are being remotely controlled from the iPhone. (You probably don't want to check this at first; wait until you've tried out the product and watched the activity in the Security log.)
